Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Sign With Savoy Jazz
New Album “Rattle Them Bones” Set for Release September 4
Band Gears Up For 20th Anniversary In 2013
SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, longtime purveyors, custodians and distillers of a modern big band swing sound are back and newly signed with Savoy Jazz. In celebration of twenty years bringing an irrepressible groove to the adoring masses, the band has recorded “RATTLE THEM BONES”—their eighth studio album. Founding members Scotty Morris and Kurt Sodergren, plus the five other original members continue to keep their sound fresh coming off the 2009 release of their tribute to Cab Calloway. Produced by Morris and Joshua Levy with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the band has honed their musicality to a fine point, effortlessly striking a balance between respect for the authenticity of the swing sound and the original ideas they incorporate into the mix. The band features Morris (vocals, guitar, banjo), Joshua Levy (piano, arranger), Kurt Sodergren (drums), Dirk Shumaker (acoustic bass, vocals), Glen “The Kid” Marhevka (trumpet), Karl Hunter (soprano, alto, tenor saxophones and clarinet) and Andy Rowley (baritone saxophone, vocals). Savoy Jazz will release “RATTLE THEM BONES” on September 4th.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is truly a pioneering band having inspired a movement with their fierce dedication to fully inhabiting their particular musical world. It’s a sound that spans many eras—think the prohibition era of “Boardwalk Empire” to the lounging swing of 60′s “Mad Men”. With “RATTLE THEM BONES” Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has put together an album of originals and hand-picked covers that would evoke a certain mood—a mood influenced by some surprisingly diverse sources ranging from Mark Twain to Randy Newman, Django Reinhardt to George Gershwin.
Says Morris: “The goal with every album is to take the listener on a unique journey… Often as we start making sense of the material, the record tells us what it’s going to be, and it was clear this time that we weren’t going to be limited to a single decade or vibe. We feel like we left Cab and started thinking about Don Draper and Mark Twain and along the way some fascinating ideas emerged that turned Rattle Them Bones into a celebration of the landscape of American music we love so much. “
“RATTLE THEM BONES” Track List:
- The Adventures Of
- Diga Diga Do
- The Jitters
- Let It Roll Again
- It Only Took A Kiss
- She’s Always Right (I’m Never Wrong)
- Why Me?
- Devil’s Dance

Soul Asylum Readies Release Of New Album “DELAYED REACTION” Available On July 17th
Hometown Release Week Performance in Minneapolis at Mall Of America
SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ – Soul Asylum is back and newly signed with 429 Records which will release their first album in six years, “DELAYED REACTION.” This time around, the veteran band is energized with a recalibrated lineup that includes founders Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy alongside ex-Replacements, ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Tommy Stinson (who replaced original member Karl Mueller who passed away in 2006) and former Prince drummer Michael Bland. “DELAYED REACTION,” which was produced by the band and overseen by John Fields, bristles with the tightly wound, slightly ragged vibe that characterized the band when they emerged straight out of Minneapolis. The recording took place in various locations—beginning in Los Angeles and then relocating to New Orleans and Minneapolis and back to LA–each town giving the tracks a unique backdrop of local culture vibe.
Soul Asylum will perform a special show in the rotunda at Mall of America on release date, the 17th of July at 6pm. Those who purchase the exclusive version of “DELAYED REACTION” on release date at Best Buy Mall of America will receive a wristband to have their CD signed by the band (while supplies last). The exclusive version includes 4 bonus tracks not available anywhere else and will be specially priced at $9.99.
Originally formed in 1983 in Minneapolis, MN, Soul Asylum has maintained their reputation for honest, heartfelt rock from their beginnings on scrappy local label Twin Tone (which concurrently nurtured the careers of seminal rockers the Replacements), through their commercially successful days on A&M and Columbia Records (where they scored a Grammy for the monster hit single “Runaway Train”). The band has persevered through the good times of garnering several platinum albums and accolades including a performance for the Presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton to enduring the personal tragedy of losing Karl Mueller to cancer six years ago.
Says Dave Pirner on the recording process: “It feels like approaching it as an album and a thing that has a sequence, and a thing that is a piece of work in itself is almost an archaic process… Honestly, it’s more organic. Even though you’re using some of this newer technology, the fact that you’re doing it yourself is what made it take so long and the process unique, this time.”
“DELAYED REACTION” Track Listing:
1) Gravity
2) Into The Light
3) The Streets
4) By The Way
5) Pipe Dream
6) Let’s All Kill Each Other
7) Cruel Intentions
8) The Juice
9) Take Manhattan
10) I Should’ve Stayed In Bed

KISS Rockers and BOOMER Magazine To Help US Veterans Find Employment
Virginia’s BOOMER magazine partners with rock band KISS to raise awareness and promote US Chamber of Commerce’s “Hiring Our Heroes” program for US Veterans.
Richmond, VA (PRWEB) June 07, 2012
Central Virginia’s BOOMER magazine is teaming up with music legends KISS for their August 2012 Summer issue. The upcoming issue will feature exclusive content from the Bristow, VA, and Virginia Beach shows the band has with Motley Crue, and will promote the US Chamber of Commerce’s “Hiring Our Heroes” program – helping US Veterans find employment as they return home from service.
KISS may be known for their huge stage shows, legendary impact on music and the hits “Rock And Roll All Nite,” “Detroit Rock City” and “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” – but they are also lending their talents and support for US Veterans as they enter the workforce after their service has ended.
It was through KISS and their management that BOOMER was educated about initiatives from the US Chamber of Commerce and the growing need for US Veterans to find employment.
KISS bassist Gene Simmons appeared on NBC’s Today Show in May of 2012 to promote the band’s very own Hire a Hero initiative for their Summer 2012 World Tour. The band held a contest and chose a US Veteran to work as a roadie on this Summer’s ‘The Tour’ with Motley Crue. The winner, and long-time KISS fan Paul Jordan, was selected LIVE on air with Matt Lauer, Ann Curry and Natalie Morales.
“We should all step up and give our heroes, our vets, a job,” says Simmons. “It’s the least we can do.”
It is estimated that over 70,000 US Veterans will be unemployed in the Virginia and Tidewater areas by the end of 2012, according to statistics from the US Department of Veterans Affairs. To raise awareness and promote local area Veteran employment, Central Virginia’s BOOMER magazine will be featuring local companies in upcoming issues who participate in Hiring Our Heroes and other employment programs.
In addition to features and awareness programs, BOOMER will also hold their very own contest to hire a US Veteran to meet and interview KISS before their tour kickoff in Bristow, VA in July 2012. The interview will be featured in an upcoming issue of BOOMER magazine and will be filmed for BOOMER Magazine’s YouTube Channel and Facebook.
Enthusiastic US Veterans and KISS fans local to the Virginia area are encouraged to Submit Your Entry to Meet and Interview KISS! for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to the magazine on their Facebook page, or by sending an email to Veterans(at)theboomermagazine(dot)com. One lucky applicant will be chosen and “hired” to conduct the interview with, “the hottest band in the world” – KISS!
BOOMER magazine and KISS are encouraging local Virginia businesses and National US Companies to hire area Veterans for long-term employment. As Gene Simmons says, “It is the most important thing we can do.”
BOOMER is published by Ross Publishing, a Richmond, VA-based company which also publishes Seniors Guide Magazine and its correlating website http://www.SeniorsGuideOnline.com, http://www.HomeCareChoice.com and http://www.SeniorProductsServices.com. Ross Publishing began in 1991 and has been publishing helpful, free publications and websites ever since.

Epic Records/Legacy Recordings Announce the Release of Strange Euphoria, the First Definitive Career-Spanning Retrospective of Heart, Curated by Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson
Historic 3CD/1DVD Box Set Available Everywhere Tuesday, June 5
NEW YORK, April 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ – Epic Records and Legacy Recordings proudly announce the release of Strange Euphoria , the first definitive career-spanning, multi-label boxed set retrospective chronicling the seminal American rock band Heart, personally curated by Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson.
A carefully-considered anthology of biggest hits and best-loved songs set alongside deep catalog treasures, rarities, demos and live performances, Strange Euphoria , three compact discs and one DVD in a deluxe box, will be available everywhere Tuesday, June 5.
“In all the years we have been making music we have seen trends come and go,” said Ann Wilson. “We have always felt that to try and chase the latest ‘it’ sound is pointless, and we have tried to remain true to ourselves as songwriters and musicians. Sometimes we have had amazing success and heard ourselves on the radio… other times not so much, but the music is always playing in our house. In this box we have included many things that until now have never seen the light of day. Also here are our favorite deep tracks and live moments that really speak to who we are on the stage and the connection between us and the people who show up to rock. Enjoy this collection. It has many facets just like we do, but the spirit running through it is all Heart. “
Ann Wilson and her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, first showed the world that women can rock when their band Heart stormed the charts in the 1970s with hits like “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” ‘Straight On,” “Even It Up,” “Kick It Out,” and many more. Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they wrote the songs and played the instruments, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the ’80s and into the ’90s with huge hits like “These Dreams,” “Alone,” “Never,” and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters’ enormous talents as both musicians and singers. Along the way, Heart sold more than 35 million records, had 21 top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide, and profoundly influenced the sound and direction of American rock music while inspiring women (and guys too!) around the world to rock out in bands of their own.
Heart were 2008 recipients of VH1 Rock Honors, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Northwest Grammy Foundation, and received ASCAP’s award for Excellence in Songwriting in 2009.
In August 2010, Red Velvet Car , the first new studio album in six years from Heart, entered the Billboard 200 best-selling album charts at #10, becoming the seventh Top 10 album of the group’s career. The group’s first album for Legacy Recordings, Red Velvet Car marked the return of the group to the Sony Music Entertainment family, reaching #1 in sales on Amazon.com in September.
What’s made Heart endure across four decades and 13 studio albums, from Dreamboat Annie (1976) through Red Velvet Car (2010), is simply the quality of the music and the Wilsons’ ability to connect to the emotions and experiences of their audience. Strange Euphoria represents the first time Ann and Nancy have personally curated a collection of their work and is the only time they’ve opened up their vaults for demos and rarities never heard by the public. The set includes song-by-song annotations, anecdotes, and commentary by the Wilson sisters.
