NEW YORK, Nov. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, announces the release of an expanded two-disc 30th anniversary edition of Texas Flood , the electrifying debut album by the American blues rock trio Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, available everywhere Tuesday, January 29, 2013.
A live sensation on the Austin, Texas club circuit since the late 1970s, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble–Stevie Ray (guitar, vocals), Tommy Shannon (bass) and Chris “Whipper” Layton (drums)–turned in a particularly memorable show at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1982, catching the ears of David Bowie (who enlisted Stevie Ray for his Let’s Dance album) and Jackson Browne (who offered the band free use of his Los Angeles recording studio). Accepting the offer, Stevie Ray and Double Trouble recorded several tracks over a whirlwind three days (with day one mainly devoted to setting up equipment) with the resultant tracks grabbing the attention of legendary record producer John Hammond, who’d discovered and signed Bob Dylan, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, Benny Goodman, Aretha Franklin and many others. Hammond brought Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble to Epic Records, which released the remastered tracks as Texas Flood in 1983.
Executive produced by John Hammond, the original Texas Flood album was produced by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and engineer Richard Mullen. The Legacy Edition of Texas Flood is produced by Gregg Geller (who, as head of Epic’s A&R 1983, signed Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble to the label).
An immediate and surprising success, Texas Flood peaked at #38 on the Billboard 200 while “Pride and Joy” shot up to #20 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The album’s title track was nominated for a Best Traditional Blues Performance Grammy while “Rude Mood” grabbed a Grammy nom for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. The album has sold more than 2 million copies since its original release.
Originally released on Epic Records on June 13, 1983, Texas Flood , an unapologetic apotheosis of electric blues supercharged for a post-disco post-punk pop world, introduced audiences to a soul-filled sound that existed outside both the mainstream and underground tastes of its era. The album opened the gates of a fiery blues resurgence with Stevie Ray Vaughan signature compositions like “Pride and Joy” and “Love Struck Baby” flowing naturally alongside covers of deep blues and R&B standards by Howlin’ Wolf, the Isley Brothers, Buddy Guy and Larry Davis.
Disc One of the 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition of Texas Flood includes the original album in its entirety with the bonus track “Tin Pan Alley” (aka “Roughest Place in Town”).
Disc Two of the newly expanded Texas Flood will premiere a previously unavailable hour’s long set of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble live at Ripley’s Music Hall in Philadelphia. Recorded on October 20, 1983 for a WMMR broadcast, the extraordinary Ripley’s performance finds Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble coming straight out of the gun already at an undeniable peak of their formidible powers.

The 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition of Texas Flood includes extensive liner notes by noted music historian Ashley Kahn (A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane’s Signature Album; Kind of Blue: The Making of the Miles Davis Masterpiece). In his notes, Kahn writes, “The story of Texas Flood —more than any other recording by the guitarist—is the story of Stevie Ray. The album stands closest to his personal roots, roots that grew from a loamy mix of deep Southern blues, Texas R&B, and white-boy rock ‘n’ roll. It echoes his earliest triumphs as a guitarist, and serves as the triumphant finish-line to a ten-year run of hustling and scuffling that began in 1973, when the Dallas-born, 18-year old left home for the Austin music scene.”

Alfred Music Publishing commemorates 90 years of helping the world experience the joy of making music. With nearly 100,000 active titles—totaling millions of educational music resources, methods, supplements, and sheet music collections stocked in music stores around the globe—a world-class author and artist roster, and more than 400 educational events and clinics conducted each year, Alfred continues to serve as the world’s largest educational music publisher.
Alfred Music Publishing’s history began in New York City, founded in 1922 by composer and musician Alfred Piantadosi. The company was then purchased in 1928 by Sam Manus, a violinist who provided mood music for silent films. Manus’ son, Morty, began his professional career in the late ’40s at Alfred—the place where he also met the bookkeeper’s daughter and wife to be, Iris. As Morty took the helm of the company in the ’50s, his focus was on educational music products, resulting in the production of successful instructional series for both recorder and guitar—including the title most noted then, and still a best-seller today—Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method. Morty continued to fuel Alfred’s dominance in educational music publishing by expanding into the school market in the ‘60s and ‘70s, introducing Alfred’s Basic Piano Library in 1982, and releasing the Accent on Achievement band method series in 1987.
Fast-forward 50 years from the first day that Morty took lead of the company, Alfred Music Publishing now extends its reach across the globe with seven offices around the world: Los Angeles headquarters; Miami, U.K., Germany, Singapore, and Australia offices; and the state-of-the-art distribution center in New York. Morty and Iris Manus are still a vital and active part of Alfred Music Publishing. “Music for me has been an extraordinary experience,” comments Morty. “It’s a business and it’s a joy, all at the same time. I met my wife there – it’s been a fascinating career so far!” Iris shares, “Music is our life, and we wish it on everyone because it’s a wonderful way to go through life—from listening to, and making, great music.”
To this day, Alfred is still a family-owned and operated business. In 1997 Steven and Ron Manus became co-owners, leading the charge into the next millennium. Alfred continued to expand under their leadership, with the purchase of Warner Bros. Publications in 2005, acquiring the rights to Warner/Chappell Music, Inc. and the EMI Catalogue Partnership. Through this deal, Alfred gained the print rights of legendary publishers such as M. Witmark & Sons, Remick Music Corp., and T.B. Harms, Inc. Among the EMI holdings are the Robbins and Leo Feist catalogs, plus film music from United Artists, MGM, and 20th Century Fox. Alfred also acquired educational power brands as a result of the deal, including Suzuki, Belwin, and many others. During the mid-to-late 2000s, Alfred also acquired the print rights to A-list artists like Led Zeppelin, Journey, Rush, and Bruce Springsteen, in addition to ABKCO Music, Inc., publisher of The Rolling Stones. Alfred also established distribution deals with BBE Sound, TASCAM, Mighty Bright, Ultimate Support, and many other music gear and equipment manufacturers. Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, the original girl guitar company launched in 2000 by President and Founder Tish Ciravolo, entered into co-ownership with Alfred in 2003. Daisy Rock Girl Guitars’ continues to help girls play guitar and enjoy music—a mission very much in sync with Alfred’s.
Alongside this growth, Alfred’s forward-thinking has led to the release the first-ever customizable instrumental methods Sound Innovations for Concert Band and String Orchestra, as well as new media educational apps such as Music for Little Mozarts and iChord Guitar for Androidtm and Apple® devices.
In 2009 Ron Manus became CEO and sole owner of Alfred. A valued employee since 1988, Ron is propelling the company to new heights and is involved in the company’s daily activities. In his first year as CEO, Ron launched the Alfred Cares initiative, renewing Alfred’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. In 2011, Ron oversaw the company’s partnership with the world renowned video game publisher Nintendo®, resulting in the release of Super Mario Bros.TM and The Legend of ZeldaTM sheet music series, for the first time in the USA.
From the modest Tin Pan Alley pop song catalog and music for silent films to many of today’s flagship and award-wining educational music publications and e-publications ported for tomorrow’s digital devices, Alfred Music Publishing takes great pride in its legacy and looks onward toward constant innovation in educational music products with 20/20 vision. Ron Manus shares:
“Alfred has been helping people experience the joy of making music for 90 years. For a company filled with avid music lovers who serve musicians of all types with the finest educational materials, that is quite a noble and proud legacy to be a part of. As we celebrate our 90th anniversary, we smile on our past as we look to the future. Alfred continues to create the great educational products people have grown to expect from us, and we also remain on the cutting edge of innovation in music education with Sound Innovations, the world’s first customizable method, eBooks, interactive learning tools, and imaginative multimedia. We wouldn’t have achieved so much in these 90 years without the spirit and hard work from Alfred’s staff, authors, editors, composers, and partners. We are incredibly privileged to work with such talent to help people learn, teach, and play music.”

Willie Nelson Signs Historic New Deal With Legacy Recordings
Artist Comes Home To Sony Music Entertainment With Upcoming Releases to Include New Recorded Material & New Archival Titles Personally Curated By Willie Nelson
NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ – Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, has entered into a historic new record deal with American legend and innovator Willie Nelson. The deal marks a label homecoming for Nelson, who, from 1975-1993, cut a phenomenal string of top-selling singles and albums for Columbia Records, beginning with 1975′s seminal smash Red Headed Stranger.
Forthcoming Willie Nelson titles under the Legacy imprint will include newly recorded songs and performances as well as archival releases, personally curated by the artist, drawn from all phases of his career including his recordings for RCA Records and others.
As curator of his catalog, Willie will work with label archivists to select recordings, including previously released and previously unreleased tracks, for release in newly compiled collections and as bonus material on new editions of existing titles. The newly curated Willie Nelson titles will provide fresh perspective and context to the artist’s profoundly influential and successful career.
Under the new agreement, fans can look forward to five brand-new Willie Nelson albums, with the first slated for release in spring 2012.
“I’m really happy to be back home with Sony Music. We have been partners for many years; all the way back to Pamper Music and Tree Music. We share a great history, and I’m looking forward to many more years together,” said Willie Nelson.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to work with Willie on this landmark partnership,” said Adam Block, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Legacy Recordings. “There’s a natural and organic relationship between new recording projects and catalog activity that promises to ensure the lasting importance of Willie and his music.”
With a six-decade career and a catalog of more than 200 albums to his credit, the iconic Texas singer-songwriter Willie Nelson has earned a permanent position in pop music’s pantheon with songs that combine the sophistication of Tin Pan Alley with the rough-and-tumble grit and emotional honesty of country music. He brought pop and country together on the radio in the early 1960s with unforgettable songs like “Crazy” (Patsy Cline), “Hello Walls” (Faron Young), “Funny How Time Slips Away” (Billy Walker), “Night Life” (Ray Price) and others and, by the mid-1970s, had become a superstar in his own right as a prime mover of a revolutionary and thriving outlaw country music scene. The Red Headed Stranger, Willie’s first album for Columbia Records in 1975, catapulted the artist to the front ranks of popularity, making his a familiar name in country and city households across America and around-the-world.
A seven-time Grammy Award winner, Willie Nelson has received numerous accolades including American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards and others. He is a co-founder of Farm Aid, an annual series of fundraising events which began as an all-star benefit concert in 1985 to raise money for American family farmers. He continues to lobby against horse slaughter and produces his own blend of biodiesel fuel. An old-school road-dog troubadour with new school wheels, Willie plays concerts year-round, tirelessly touring on Honeysuckle Rose III (he rode his first two buses into the ground), taking his music and fans to places that are always worth the ride.
